A Shot in the Dark

by Brooke on May 9, 2012

We were sooooo excited to see the supermoon this weekend, it was raining on Saturday but we got to enjoy it on Sunday! Candace and I have been planning this shoot for over a month, going through all the ideas, what we envisioned, how to make it work… the logistics were rather difficult but it made us laugh and do lots of problem solving! Thank goodness her hubby is an electrician!
We have a blast bouncing ideas around and making it happen! If there is anything you have in mind, no matter how wild it may seem, let us know! Or if you would like a dusk/nighttime shoot or photos on the cloud, we’d love it!
More details on everything the shoot entailed and some behind the scenes photos will be coming soon.

Grigsby | Newborn

by Brooke on May 4, 2012

This little fella was hands down the easiest newborn we have ever photographed! Usually the newborn session takes anywhere from 2-6 hours depending on the baby… there is lots of eating, pooping and peeing and then sleeping. Tons of work goes into those cute sleepy babies!
This morning we arrived and Grigsby was asleep on mama’s chest, we immediately got together all the props we wanted to use, which were mostly Currituck themes (Mons and Josh and Currituck for life!.) Their home is filled with antiques, decoys, old duck prints… so of course, these had to be incorporated!
Once we started photographing him, he was asleep for an hour, woke up and wanted to eat and was right back to sleep! This is only the second time we haven’t been pooped or peed on, we don’t mind either, but it’s a special treat to leave clean!
Loved all the ideas Carrie and Candace came up with! Mons and Josh are more traditional so a photo with all their silver/crystal set up was perfect!

Jed hearts Renee | Ocracoke Island

by Brooke on May 2, 2012

Renee and Jed had such a beautiful wedding on Ocracoke Island. They chose their parents sound front home as the location for their ceremony and reception. Everything was just perfect. Even though it rained, they were able to have the ceremony outside by the water, and then run under the tent to enjoy their food and drinks! We always love to capture the details of your special day. I especially love this shot of their rings.

And this is the view from Renee’s hotel room where she got ready! I wanted to take a picture of the water front with the lighthouse in the background, and than this pelican flew into view and made the picture even better!

I love these silly shots of Renee before her ceremony!

This little stinker was so very nervous about his job as ring bearer. He was crying on the steps, then made it to the aisle and collapsed on the ground. Too stinking cute!!

Jed’s face is priceless as he watches Renee appear at the end of the aisle! And the love in her eyes just makes her glow.

Here are a few more fun and emotional photos from their ceremony.

Candace caught one of our fave moments here! This moment is so tender and sweet.

Everywhere we looked, all the family and friends were having so much fun, and were just so happy for the newlyweds. Renee is so super lucky to have such a wonderful loving sister! I thought I was going to cry at everything Abby did!

The sweets were so YUMMY!

Did I say there was rain? Well the weather decided to clear up just in time for some really delicious evening light! We took full advantage of the change and caught some wonderful moments during the reception! I adore sunsets!

Renee and Jed had all the yard lit up with these beautiful lights, so pretty with their reception tent in the background.

One of my favorite pictures to get, is your reception lit up and shining during the night. I love the color of the sky and the way everything looks so magical.

YAY Sparklers…. I can’t think of anything else to say… except that we LOVE sparklers!

Thank you so much Renee and Jed! We feel truly honored to capture your beautiful day for you! Congratulations.

Loverbuns!

by Brooke on May 1, 2012

It was such a great surprise to see John and his beautimus girlfriend, Alisha, on Sunday! We are both from New Bern and our moms were best friends, I am 6 years older than him and used to babysit him and my sister. John is moving to Okinawa for 2 years and came up to visit my sister this weekend before leaving. They swung by to see us and we made them model, he was wearing a comfy grey sweatshirt with a bright orange shirt underneath and luckily under that he had on his white shirt. She was looking beautiful just the way she was!
I am so proud of him and it is sooo great to see these two so happy and in love! You could see the sparks between their lips as they smooched and the twinkle in their eyes as they looked at one another. We didn’t have to prompt a thing with these two, they would just be walking and he would unexpectedly swoop her up and she would just melt in his arms. We love and will miss you, Be SAFE!

Portrait Party for Relay For Life

by Brooke on May 1, 2012

We had the best time at the portrait party on Sunday! Renee Landry set up the most amazing backdrops, the lemonade stand and teepee were our favorites but they were all stinkin’ adorable!!! Pledger’s Palace organized it all for their student’s and families with the proceeds benefiting Relay For Life. If you are looking for a preschool, this is a fabulous one! Wonderful teachers in large classrooms, it is crazy clean and super duper secure.
All the families were so sweet and the kiddos were soooooo well behaved, listened and were in the best mood, despite it being a bit chilly! It was wondersum to meet everyone, thank you so much for coming to play with us and for supporting Relay for Life!

Strawberries + Love

by Brooke on April 30, 2012

We had the best time picking “flowers” as Poppy calls them. She ate more than she put in the bucket and of course being little miss independent, she had to carry the bucket, quite a feat for such a little bit! Thank you Candace for the gorgeous photos, it’s so fun to get to be in a few with her!

Mike + Michelle | The Sanderling

by Brooke on April 23, 2012

Mike and Michelle had such a perfect beautiful sunshiney day for their wedding. Everything was so elegant and beautiful.
I just love weddings at The Sanderling especially with the new pavilion!
When Candace and I first arrived, we headed straight to the girls room where we began to take detail shots while we waited for Michelle to finish getting all dolled up! These ladies were so so much fun!

When Michelle arrived, she was so stinking beautiful! You could tell she was nervous and excited and ready to start her day! So fun. So we immediately put her in her gorgeous dress and had her hang out with all her beautiful Bridesmaids!

Next Michelle and Mike had a “first look” planned. I just adore first looks, I believe it allows more time for the Bride and Groom to be alone together and allows them to enjoy those private moments on such an important day. Their emotions were just so powerful, I think I teared up just a little bit!

This picture made me laugh and cry all at once! Michelle looked at Mike let out a deep breathe and said to him… “Now I feel so much better!” How sweet is that? All her nervousness just went away when she was with him! And he just took her in his arms and hugged her!

After their first look and before the ceremony, we took all the bridal party and family across the street for some fun portraits. There is an old seafood building that is so beachy and run down that I enjoy using for pictures!

While we were there, we took their rings on a little adventure… I think Candace’s macro use is fantastic! And I want barnacles everywhere I go, LOL!

And here are some wonderful moments between Mike and Michelle. The lovely flowers were made by Sugar Snap Florals. . They smelled so sweet!

The ceremony was on the large porch between the Sanderling and the Dunes, you can hear the ocean in the background, pelicans were flying overhead and the clouds were just perfect!

At the cocktail party, one of the Groomsmen had composed a few songs to serenade the happy couple. Mike and Michelle enjoyed an impromptu first dance. And apparently, one of their vacation homes was one of the ones that burned down in Pine Island last weekend… so he made a song based on Billy Joel’s song “We Didn’t Start the Fire”… all about coming to the Outer Banks and being homeless! It was a hoot! He had the whole group cracking up!

At the reception, Mike and Michelle enjoyed their first dance and a sentimental and emotional speech from her father, before sitting down and enjoying all the yummy food! All of their entrances were hilarious!

And here are a few more of my faves from the reception. Their guests had so so much fun dancing and partying! I was overwhelmed by how much fun they were all having!

Thanks so much to Mike and Michelle for having us there and to Candace for rocking out as my second shooter! Such a fun and wonderful day!

Congratulations lovebugs!

Poppy is 2 years Old!

by Brooke on April 23, 2012

I can’t believe Poppy is 2! Today is her actual birthday and 2 years ago at this time I was walking around the vineyards trying to get labor started, then I gave up and went to BJs to deliver some photos to Gena with Platinum Party Planning.
I was sure she wasn’t going to come on her due date! But I was wrong, she was very considerate and did just that!
At 3pm I turned on Avatar and was wondering why I was having such bad lower back cramps. They didn’t feel like contractions or what I thought contractions were supposed to feel like. At 4pm we were on our way to Elizabeth City to the hospital all the time I was sure it was false labor and they were going to send me home. We didn’t have gas in the car so we had to stop at 7/11, meanwhile I was beginning to think maybe it was real…
When we got to the hospital they checked me in and Poppy was born at 10:30pm at a whopping 6lbs even.
We’ve had the best time over the last 2 years, can’t believe she’s our baby! It’s such a blessing having her grandparents so close by. My dad is in town this weekend for his and Poppy’s birthday and they are reading downstairs right now.

Here are some photos from her 2nd birthday party.

She loves smoochin’ Austin…

here she is last year kissing him at her party!

I adore her little tutu outfit from Salon Swank and her monogrammed roos that Bubbles made for her!

Love her cake Hello My Sweet made for her!

Here she is at her first birthday party, not sure what to think of her cake!

Poppy is pouting because we wouldn’t let her have a 6th lollipop! How she got 5, I’m not sure! That was her first and last lollipop for a very, very long time!
