I have had sooo much fun working with these two on their albums! They couldn’t decide which images to use so they got two albums telling their wedding story. We debated on having 2 albums, one having getting ready, ceremony and portraits and the other having their cocktail hour and reception but we agreed that if they have 2 kiddos they both may want a complete album.
Here is the first album to arrive!

Michelle + Paul have been planning their elopement for over a year now and not a single person knew about it besides them, Dr. Dave, me and Carrie and the gals at The Sanderling.
That’s pretty amazing, there is no way I would be able to keep such a wonderful secret!!
They said their vows on the beach, had a picnic complete with bubbly and dinner at The Left Bank.
What a perfect evening!
After the ceremony, Michelle said, “I wish I hadn’t waited so long to marry you!”

This one of Carrie cracked me up!

We are all packed up and ready for Michelle + Mike’s wedding at The Sanderling on Saturday! Carrie will be photographing it with Candace second shooting.
Batteries are charged, cards formatted and freshly cleaned cameras are all ready to go!
We have lots of questions as to what equipment we use, recommend and do we have backups…
Below is a list of what we carry to each wedding. And yes, even though there are 3 photographers, if 2 of us have a different wedding on the same day, we each carry the same equipment we are listing below. Having a backup of your backup is essential in wedding photography! We also have full coverage insurance and have our equipment cleaned and inspected by Nikon every 2 months.
Portrait photography is a whole other ballgame as you don’t need to have so much equipment available, it’s a more controlled environment, less people and while you must have a backup camera, lens and lighting, it is overkill to bring all we list below. I’m always amazed at the amount of equipment we have when we pull it all out and pack it up for the first wedding of the season!
At a wedding, if something goes wrong with your equipment, you must have another back up that is equally as good as the one you are using. You don’t ever want your clients to know there was any hiccup. Just put down the broken equipment, pick up the backup and keep on shooting!
We have had equipment break at 3 weddings in 9 years, one the camera was dropped on the floor and the others the shutter just quit working. Luckily we had a backup ready but it was still terrifying especially since 2 of the cameras were less than a year old. We only keep our cameras for 3 years due to all the wear and tear the salt water and sand put on them. Even with regular cleanings and maintenance I don’t trust one older than that for an event such as your wedding!

Carrie and Candace did an amazing job speaking at The Sanderling for the OBX Bride’s Wedding Expo. They discussed how to achieve optimal lighting on your wedding day from getting ready all the way to your exit. To view a tidbit, click here.

A huge congratulations to Carrie + Jim! They had an insanely amazing wedding at 108 Budleigh this past fall! Many thanks to the Outer Banks Wedding Association for featuring it! We had so much fun photographing their Outer Banks wedding!
My 3 favorite parts of their wedding:
1. Their first look on the beach by the Bodie Island Lighthouse, sooo romantic!
2. Their dog friend was in their wedding!
3. Their Silly Goose Photo Booth and the fellas wearing their toot outfits on the dance floor!
Here is a link to our original blog post complete with links to all the talented and professional vendors.
Enjoy!

I adored everything about this couple, their family and their wedding! From the second I met them we clicked. They are the sweetest, most genuine and easy going family. They are one of the first couples to have their wedding in the winery at Sanctuary Vineyards and even though it was a bit chilly, they had a beautimus ceremony in the vineyard and a hayride (complete with wino!) from the ceremony site of the vineyards to the reception in the winery. Even if the weather had been yucky, the inside of the winery is a gorgeous place to get married!
